Over 50,000 persons in Canada are afflicted with multiple sclerosis, of which 12,000 live in Quebec. Many among them who have to leave their homes because of the progress of this degenerative disease and the lack of adequate home care, have almost no other option but to move into a CHSLD (residential and long-term care centre). Given that the average age of persons with multiple sclerosis is 38 years, sharing a living environment with elderly people is not the most appropriate solution.

During 2005, our team travelled throughout the province of Quebec and met with multiple sclerosis patients residing in CHSLDs to find out their opinions on this subject. Their message was clear: create a distinctive environment for people who have to leave their homes due to the consequences of this illness, a place where they can live with dignity in a living environment that is appropriate to their specific health condition and age group. |
After listening to the heartfelt pleas of several multiple sclerosis patients, we decided to open a private residence that would be totally unique and that would cater to the specific needs created by this devastating illness. And so it was that, prompted by their hearts, Michel Beaudoin and Christiane St-Germain founded the Résidence du Carré Royal in May 2006, as a non-profit organization.
Following the establishment of the Résidence, we decided to extend our philanthropic mission by creating the Résidence du Carré Royal Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization, to ensure that our residents can receive all the care and attention they deserve by giving them access to specialized equipment, financial assistance for lodging, as well as offering appropriate activities designed to improve the quality of their lives. All our residents deserve to live as young, productive adults, full of hope for the future. However, to do this, we need your help.
Thanks to your generous donations, we can offer them this hope for a better quality of life. The Foundation is also dedicated to giving a voice to multiple sclerosis patients by making the public aware of the shortage of adapted care centres. Our goal is also to keep you informed about how your donations are used. Thus, with a simple click, you can keep track of the Foundation's activities and learn about the latest acquisitions made, thanks to your financial commitment to our worthy cause.
We invite you, then, to join with us in changing lives.
Thank you for your generosity!
